In my photography business, one of my core values is fostering genuine and candid connections. I find so much joy engaging in meaningful conversations with the couples I have the privilege to celebrate. Even more fulfilling is capturing their relationship through my lens in ways they may not have imagined possible. This magic unfolds when there’s a true connection between us. So, in this blog, I’m dedicating myself to answering YOUR questions, offering you a glimpse into my heart, soul, and passion as a Boston Wedding and Elopement Photographer.
How did you get started in photography?
When I was very young, we had many family photo albums at home. I looooved looking through all the pictures my parents had taken of us and our family. I would reminisce about the memories captured in those photos, even ones from when I was too little to remember. My fascination with these pictures led me to get my first disposable camera. I took it everywhere—school, trips, and everyday activities—constantly taking pictures and getting the film developed. The joy I felt when I got the photos back was immense; I remembered when I took each one and how I felt in those moments.
When I graduated from middle school, my parents got me my first point-and-shoot digital camera, and in high school, they upgraded me to a new one. My parents have always supported me with my hobbies, even when none of us knew where this passion would lead. Then, in college, my best friend’s dad passed away and in an effort to honor her dad’s memory, she gave me his DSLR professional camera knowing how much I loved photography. This camera held significant sentimental value for me, and I wanted to steward her investment in me well so, I enrolled in a photography class to learn the technical aspects and make the most of the camera.
Although I went to college to become a teacher, I still continued to pursue photography in different ways such as following many photographers I admired on social media. About two and a half years ago, 2 of my favorite photographers released a course on photography basics. With my husband’s encouragement, I upgraded to a new DSLR, took the course, and began asking friends if I could take their photos. From the start, I knew I wanted to photograph love because of how much I cherish it. Now, two years later, I am running my photography business capturing moments of love.
What made you decide to specialize in couples, elopements, and weddings?
As I mentioned briefly above, I love love. I adore the feelings it evokes and enjoy seeing it unfold. Romantic comedies are my comfort movies, so when I began my photography journey, I knew I wanted to focus on couples. While I have tried senior sessions and family portraits along the way and enjoyed them, photographing couples brings me a unique and unparalleled joy. I’m passionate about capturing the different stages of their journey—whether it’s dating, engagement, anniversaries, just for fun, or weddings. I knew I wanted to specialize in this area, and it has been incredibly fulfilling.
Couples hanging out with each other during a session helps eliminate feelings of awkwardness, allowing me to capture their intimate love as a third wheel on a fun date. I like to create sessions that feel like a date, so they can enjoy their time together, rekindle that spark, and break out of their normal routine. It’s a wonderful way for them to remember how much they love each other.
Boston Elopement and Intimate Weddings Photographer
I wanted to elope myself, as I’m a very private person who values deep relationships and dislikes superficial conversations. Couples who choose to elope often share these preferences, valuing quality over quantity and focusing on their marriage and the people closest to them. I resonate with this deeply.
I also love adventures. While not all elopements are adventurous, they offer the freedom to do whatever the couple enjoys, whether it’s eating ice cream, rock climbing, skydiving, or simply walking around town or driving a fancy car. The unique, personalized experiences that come with elopements and intimate weddings are something I cherish. Additionally, as the photographer, I can connect with all the guests and have meaningful conversations, capturing the most important moments with the couple’s most important people.
That said, I also love big parties, which is why I photograph large weddings too. The energy, hype, and grandeur of big weddings are exciting. I love the luxurious details, the elaborate tablescapes, and the overall celebratory atmosphere. You get married once, so why not go all out?
I love them all! At the heart of it all are the couples, and I love working with couples in every setting.
What do you love the most about photography?
Being able to freeze moments in time, especially during weddings and elopements, is incredibly important. On those days, our brains are overwhelmed with emotions, making it hard to remember everything clearly. That’s why I love photography—it helps you remember exactly how you felt in those special moments.
As a photographer, I am very observant, capturing details you might not notice or moments you aren’t around to see. When you look back at those images, you’ll discover things you didn’t realize were happening and cherish those newfound memories. I believe it’s essential to capture these significant life transitions so you can reflect on the past, see your growth, and feel proud of your journey together.
What are your favorite Boston locations to shoot at?
Local spots hold a special place in my heart! I love capturing moments at Beacon Hill and Boston Common, where the downtown presence of Boston shines in its full, rich glory. The architecture and historical landmarks add so much character to the photos. Another favorite is the North Shore beaches, where the sand is soft, the ocean stretches out endlessly, and golden hour hits differently with no buildings to obstruct the glow.
I also adore New Hampshire, especially the mountains. I could live on a mountain and be forever happy. The feeling of being small amidst the vast landscape is humbling, reminding me of the beauty of our planet and the joy of capturing moments in front of such breathtaking scenery.
For non-local locations, I am incredibly excited about shooting in countries with grand landscapes, like Iceland or Switzerland. I haven’t had the chance to shoot there yet, but I can’t wait to find couples who want to capture their love in such stunning surroundings.
What are some goals that you have for next year as a Boston Wedding and Elopement Photographer?
I’m continually refining my niche to connect with my ideal clients. Those who not only appreciate the art of photography but also deeply value the connection with their photographer. My dream clients are couples who not only love my work but also feel comfortable enough to show up authentically in front of my camera. I strive to create a space where they can be themselves and where our relationship can flourish.
I am committed to building genuine relationships, both within my business and beyond. It’s important to me that my clients feel a personal connection with me, as this mutual trust and understanding enhance the meaning and authenticity of the photos we create together.
How would you describe your photography style?
I’m focusing more on a documentary style that goes beyond just candid shots. It’s about me being like a fly on the wall, capturing moments exactly as they unfold. There’s no room for overediting or excessive posing. Instead, I aim to create a comfortable space where you can be yourselves with your favorite person on the planet—your partner.
The magic in these photos comes from their authenticity, as they truly reflect who you are and how you interact together. That’s why it’s crucial for me to establish a personal connection with you. I want us to collaborate closely, creating a narrative in still frames that feels like a movie of your relationship. Rather than a series of posed shots (though I still provide guidance when needed).
True-to-color photography is my approach! I don’t alter colors extensively, ensuring that the images authentically represent the moment as it was captured.
