How to Plan a Dreamy Waterfall Elopement in Washington

Are you wanting an intimate, adventure-filled wedding day surrounded by beautiful forests, dramatic waterfalls, and epic mountain views? A PNW elopement might be exactly what you’re looking for! Washington is packed with diverse landscapes, from misty coastlines to insane peaks and, of course, the jaw-dropping waterfalls that make this part of the US perfect for couples craving a romantic and carefree escape!

Why Choose Washington for Your Waterfall Elopement?

Washington is seriously a nature lover’s dream! The Pacific Northwest is all about dramatic scenery, moody weather, and endless adventure. Whether you’re up for a hike to a secret waterfall or just want to chill at a spot with a killer view, there’s so much to choose from. Plus, eloping in Washington lets you do your day however you want, no stress, no strict timelines, just you two soaking in every moment together.

A Slow, Intentional Elopement Day in the PNW

Eloping isn’t just about ditching the big wedding, it’s about creating a day that feels like you. One couple I photographed took this to heart, crafting a laid-back and deeply personal elopement experience in the heart of Washington!

A Quiet Afternoon: Just the Two of Them

They started their day slow, waking up where she had spent summers growing up. No rush, no plans, just the two of them, soaking in the morning together. This is the beauty of elopements, you get to design a day that feels right for you, whether that means a slow, intimate start or diving straight into adventure. Over a glass of wine, they played a question game and wrote their vows, reflecting on their journey and the memories that led them to this moment, embracing the freedom to plan each part of the day on their own terms.

We took photos at Taylor’s family’s cabin, where so many childhood memories were made, and where Josh became part of those traditions. This was an incredible special part of their day that was a dream to be a part of!

A Private Vow Reading in Their Backyard

Instead of reading their vows in front of a crowd, they shared them with each other in the backyard. It was quiet, intimate, and exactly how they wanted to begin their marriage, just the two of them, with nothing but the trees and fresh mountain air around them. Seriously, one of my favorite experiences while capturing an elopement!

A Unique First Look

This first look was something special. He stood on the balcony, watching as she danced barefoot down the steps below, her dress flowing with every twirl. The way he leaned over the railing, smiling as he took her in — it was peaceful, personal, and so them. Just the two of them, savoring the moment before the adventure officially began!

Then, we made our way to a private waterfall, the very spot where they had spent countless summer days together. The sound of rushing water, the cool mist in the air, it was the perfect backdrop for their love story!

Sunset on the Dock

To end the day, we headed to the dock overlooking a gorgeous mountain lake, one of Josh’s favorite places to be, thanks to his love for boating. As the sun dipped behind the peaks, they soaked in their first moments as a married couple, wrapped up in each other and the beauty of the PNW. It truly was one of the most memorable elopement days that I have witnessed!
