What to Do After You Are Engaged
One of my favorite locations in Boston to document a proposal is at the Boston Public Library. Morgan reached out to me to take 10 year anniversary photos with his soon-to-be fiance, Ria. It was their first time ever getting professional photos and Morgan trusted my vision wholeheartedly. Morgan truly surprised Ria during the surprise proposal at the Boston Public Library! Shortly after the surprise proposal, Morgan and Ria did a quick outfit change and we got some engagement portraits on a rooftop garage nearby to soak in the beautiful city views of Boston. It can feel overwhelming about the next steps in planning your wedding. Hopefully, this guide can provide some helpful direction for what to do after an engagement!
You’re Engaged, Now What?
1. Start Your Engagement-Moon
While it may be tempting to shout your news from the rooftops, allow yourselves a few days to soak in this new chapter in your relationship privately. Then, whether it’s sharing a quiet dinner for two or hosting an intimate gathering with loved ones, cherish this significant moment in your relationship.
2. Get Your Ring Sized and Insured
This is often an overlooked step after all of the celebration and excitement of the engagement. Avoid the risk of your ring slipping off and potentially getting lost by going to a local jeweler. Additionally, consider obtaining engagement ring insurance to safeguard against loss, theft, or damage.
3. Discuss Wedding Planning Priorities
Sit down together and talk about each other’s priorities for the wedding. What aspects are most important to each of you? Whether it’s the venue, picking the wedding date, budget, choosing a wedding photographer, deciding the guest list, or the style of the ceremony. Understanding each other’s priorities will help guide your planning process.
4. Picking a Wedding Date
It’s essential to take into account whether the chosen date falls within peak or off-wedding seasons, as well as whether it will occur on a weekday or weekend. These factors significantly influence the cost of your celebration and availability options.
Once you have a particular date, season, or venue in mind, I highly recommend that you and your partner prioritize checking this off your post-engagement checklist quickly. This early decision will provide a clearer direction for tackling the remaining tasks on your wedding planning priority list!
- Spring: March to May brings blooming flowers and milder temperatures. However, there might be some unpredictable weather, including rain.
- Summer: June to August is popular for weddings due to warm weather and longer days. Outdoor venues and activities are abundant during this time.
- Fall: September to November showcases New England’s famous foliage, creating stunning backdrops for weddings. The weather is typically pleasant, but venues and vendors may be in high demand.
- Winter: December to February offers a cozy atmosphere with potential snowfall, making for picturesque winter weddings. However, travel and logistics might be affected by winter weather conditions.
Ultimately, the best time depends on your vision, budget, and the availability of your preferred venues and vendors.
5. Choosing a New England Wedding Photographer
Likewise, when it comes to selecting the ideal wedding date, prioritizing the booking of your wedding photographer is crucial. Their schedules can fill up months, even years, in advance, and it’s disheartening for both parties when couples must be turned away due to prior bookings.
