How one couple made their elopement magical and personal at this iconic spot

When Angel and Lillian decided to elope at the Boston State House, they didn’t just pick any location – they picked a place filled with personal meaning, stunning architecture, and an atmosphere perfect for their intimate ceremony. Let’s dive into their unforgettable elopement and why this location is such a hidden gem for couples looking to tie the knot.

Why Have a Boston State House Elopement?

Location: 24 Beacon Street, Boston MA

Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm

When it came time to choose the perfect venue, Angel and Lillian were drawn to the Boston State House for its timeless elegance and rich history. With its iconic architecture and historic charm, the State House offered the ideal backdrop for their celebration—blending classic beauty with the grandeur that made their wedding day feel truly unforgettable.

Plus, with her mom working at the State House and their deep-rooted ties to Boston, it was a no-brainer! Even though they now live out of state, this historic building in the heart of the city became the perfect backdrop for their special day.

Insider Tips for a Boston State House Elopement

Angel and Lillian chose to exchange their vows outside in the charming courtyard, which is public and open to anyone! The courtyard is a great spot for a small, intimate ceremony and it provided a beautiful blend of nature and history with the grand gold dome of the State House and its timeless architecture framing their special moment.

With the greenery surrounding the space and the State House standing tall behind them, it felt like they got the best of both worlds: the beauty of nature and the grandeur of one of Boston’s most iconic landmarks.

Since it was a sunny August morning (hello, unpredictable New England weather!), we played with light throughout the day. The clouds rolled in and out, making for some stunning shots with shifting light.

For photographers, the State House offers so many opportunities to get creative with lighting, especially since Lillian specifically wanted flash photos. The changing sunlight outdoors and the ambiance inside meant we could capture a variety of looks.

Pro tip: If you’re eloping here, make sure to embrace the morning light – it adds such a natural glow to everything.

We also took advantage of the Grand Staircase inside, a favorite of Lillian. If you love that classic, timeless look, this staircase is a dream for dramatic, beautiful portraits. Plus, there’s a porch at the front of the State House that overlooks the Boston Common – it’s a super fun spot for photos, especially if you’re looking to play with direct light!

Eloping at the Boston State House with a Personal Touch

This was no ordinary elopement! Angel and Lillian wanted to emphasize family, keeping the day intimate with just their closest loved ones.

One of the most special parts? Lillian’s grandpa was the officiant. It was such a heartfelt moment, and it reminded me why I love elopements so much – you can really make it your own, tailoring every detail to what’s meaningful to you.

With their immediate family present, we made sure to capture various family groupings as well as the whole group, honoring their close-knit circle. Elopements give you the flexibility to create a day that reflects your values and traditions, like having your grandfather lead the ceremony. It was such a touching moment that made the day feel truly theirs.

Why They Chose Me as Their Boston Elopement Photographer

For Angel and Lillian, their Christian faith was an important part of their union. They wanted to work with someone who shared their views on the sanctity of marriage, and that’s one of the reasons why we clicked from the very beginning!

Knowing we had the same outlook on the significance of matrimony made the day even more special. It’s such an honor to work with couples who not only appreciate my photography style but also connect with me on a deeper level.

How to Plan an Elopement in Just Two Weeks

One of the most impressive things about Angel and Lillian’s day? They planned the entire elopement in just two weeks. Yup, you read that right!

Elopements don’t have to take months to plan – as long as you fill the day with intention and meaning, it can be just as beautiful as any other wedding that you see on Pinterest! Angel and Lillian’s love for Boston’s architecture, their close family bonds, and their shared faith made this day beyond special. It’s proof that with the right people and a location that speaks to you, you can pull off an amazing elopement in no time.

A Glimpse Into Their Love Story

“Angel & I met three years ago, and it was pretty much love at first sight. Together, we’ve moved from Boston to Texas, and most recently to Florida. After getting engaged in Seaport Boston earlier this year, we knew we wanted to elope in a place that held so many memories for us.

We love your intimate photo shoot work and your love for God – we value that above all else and think it would be a great experience together! We love your editing style and think you could capture our courthouse elopement perfectly.” -Lillian

Their love story and the day they created together is the perfect reminder that an elopement can be anything you want it to be – and with the Boston State House as your backdrop, it’s sure to be unforgettable.
